Newest edit wins, or you choose
If you edited the same note on two devices, the newest edit is kept. Review each one side by side, pick the other version, or keep both.
JW Library keeps your study data separately on each phone, tablet and computer. JWL Merger combines the backups from all of them into one, so every device ends up with the same notes, highlights, bookmarks, tags and playlists.
Start: open the appJWL Merger is on the home screen, like any app. Tap its icon to open it.
The demo uses example backups. Nothing leaves this page.
A note you write on your phone stays on your phone. Highlights made on the tablet at the meeting never reach your computer. Over the years every device collects a different part of your personal study.
JWL Merger brings those parts together. Add the backups from every device, including old ones, and restore one complete backup everywhere.
Items found on more than one device are kept once. Example figures.
You only need a web browser. Use any one device to do the merge.
In JW Library on every phone, tablet and computer, create a backup and save it somewhere you can reach, like iCloud Drive, Google Drive or OneDrive.
Settings › Backup and Restore › Create a backupOpen JWL Merger, choose all the backups at once and tap Merge. A preview shows what each device will gain before anything is saved.
Choose backups › Merge backupsSave the merged backup, send it to your other devices, and restore it in JW Library. Every device now has the same study data.
Settings › Backup and Restore › Restore a backupBuilt around how JW Library actually stores your study data, so notes stay attached to the right verse, article and paragraph.
If you edited the same note on two devices, the newest edit is kept. Review each one side by side, pick the other version, or keep both.
Notes typed twice, identical highlights, and repeated audio and video are kept once. Overlapping highlights of the same colour can be combined too.
Every note and highlight from every backup must be in the result, and the database must pass an integrity check. If anything fails, nothing is saved.
Add backups from an old phone or from years ago. Notes you thought were lost come back alongside today's.
Leave out notes, highlights, bookmarks, tags, favourites, filled-in answers or playlists if you only want part of your data combined.
Keep your original backups on your device for a week, so you can go back to any of them if something is not right.
Scan a code on your other device and the merged backup opens there, ready to restore. Or send it with Beam-It, directly between devices.
Add a single backup to remove the duplicate audio and video items that build up in playlists over time.
Optionally get a list of every publication you have notes or highlights in, with a jw.org link to download each one again.
Each backup is checked as you add it. A damaged one is refused, and you are told if one is empty, added twice or much older than your newest.
The newest backup is picked as your main one and its bookmarks are the ones kept. Choose another, or combine the bookmarks of every backup.
Before saving, open the list of new items grouped by device and publication, and search every note in the merged backup.
After the first visit the app opens and merges with no connection, and you can add it to your Home Screen like an app.

Add a repeating reminder to your calendar, so you back up and merge again before your devices drift apart.

Your backups are opened and merged on your own device, in your browser. They are never uploaded, except a locked copy if you choose Send with a QR code, which is deleted after one hour. Before saving, JWL Merger checks that every note and highlight from every backup is included.
It is free, with no account. It works in any web browser on iPhone, iPad, Android, Mac or Windows. There is also an offline Windows version and a Mac app.
