Combine the notes, highlights, bookmarks and tags from your iPhone, iPad, Android, Mac or PC into one JW Library backup.
Add all your JW Library backups at once: today’s, last year’s, and the ones from your old phone. JWL Merger gathers the personal study data from each of them into a single backup you restore once. You’ll be amazed how much comes back.
In JW Library on each device: Settings → Backup and Restore → Create a backup, save it to iCloud Drive or Files, then add them here.
Before you start: update JW Library on every device, and decide which device you'll merge on — any phone, tablet or computer with a web browser.
Move every backup to the device you'll merge on — with iCloud Drive, OneDrive, Google Drive, AirDrop, an email to yourself, or Beam. Each file ends in .jwlibrary.
Tap Tap to choose backups and pick all of them at once. On iPhone or iPad, tap Browse, find the files, tap Select and choose them. On a computer you can also drag them onto the box. Each backup shows how many notes, highlights and bookmarks it has, so you can check you've got the right ones. Tap Remove to take one out.
Before you choose: make a fresh backup today on every device you use JW Library on — phone, tablet and computer — then add them all here. You can also add any older backups you want to bring back, even ones from years ago.
Items on more than one device are kept once. If the same note was edited on two devices, the newest edit wins — or you choose.
Downloaded publications, videos and audio aren't part of backups — each device keeps its own downloads.
Every publication you have notes, highlights, bookmarks or playlist items in, across all your devices. Use the jw.org link to download one again.
Send the merged backup straight to your phone, tablet or computer — no need to copy files around.
On the other device, open the Camera, point it at this code and tap the link. The merged backup opens there, ready to restore in JW Library.
QR code: the file is locked on this device first; a scrambled copy is kept for 1 hour and only this code can unlock it. Beam-It: goes directly between your devices (if Beam-It cannot open in a new tab, a locked copy is used the same way).
Important: restoring replaces everything on that device with the merged backup. Don't add notes on your other devices between making the backups and restoring — anything new would be replaced. Restore on all your devices soon after merging.
Next time: repeat these steps whenever your devices get out of step — for example once a week.
Keep your original backups until you've checked your notes after the first merge.
Do this every month
Add a reminder to your calendar, so your devices never get far out of step.
Go back to one of your backups: save it unchanged, then restore it in JW Library (Settings → Backup and Restore → Restore a backup). This also undoes a merged backup you've already restored.
The original backups from your merges in the last 7 days are kept on this device only — never uploaded. To go back, save the original from each device and restore it in JW Library (Settings → Backup and Restore → Restore a backup).
No. JW Library keeps your notes, highlights and bookmarks separately on each device. To get the same ones everywhere, make a backup on each device, merge them here into one, and restore that one backup on every device.
Make a backup on the old device and on the new one, add both here and tap Merge backups. Restore the merged backup on the new device — nothing that was already on it is lost. If you only have one backup, you can also restore it directly in JW Library.
Your backups are opened and merged on your own device, in your browser — they are never uploaded (except a locked copy if you choose Send with a QR code, deleted after 1 hour). Before saving, JWL Merger checks that every note and highlight from every backup is included, and saves nothing if a check fails.
It’s free, with no account. It works in any web browser on iPhone, iPad, Android, Mac or Windows. There’s also an offline Windows version and a Mac app.
The newest edit is kept. After merging you can review each one side by side, choose the other version, or keep both as separate notes.
Yes. Keep your original backups until you’ve checked your notes. JWL Merger can also keep the originals on this device for 7 days, so you can restore one of them if something isn’t right.
